Report by the FAS WhatsApp group:

During the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 various sports broadcasters released videos of classic matches for people to watch while in enforced lockdown. This led to discussion in the FAS WhatsApp group about which tour games would be worth re-living . . .

James Houlder: FAS vs vs. Mid Notts FAS, July 2000 . . .

Cliff Dare: Against a Mid Notts side with Roger playing for them we were 118 all out. Their openers bowled 14 overs in the first spell. 9 of which were maidens. Campo and Scotty 25 each. 17 extras We then bowled them out for 117! To won by 1 run. With Roger opening at getting 58. 7 extras, so the other 10 made 51 between them!

Daniel Mortlock: Victory by a single run - sounds exciting!

James Houlder: It was one of the classics . . . on a knife edge, in the driving rain, them wanting to go off, us wanting to stay on . . . and a full lap of honour (including aeroplane arms) by CRS Dare on taking the final wicket.

James Houlder: (I'm working on a screenplay.)

Daniel Mortlock: Cliff Dare: 19.1 overs, 5 maidens, 5/51 . . . so he conceded almost half the target of 118 single-handed?

James Houlder: In pretty much half of the 38.1 overs though . . .

Cliff Dare: The key word being "almost", for exactly half the required number of wickets.

James Houlder: So anyway, that was the last time we played mid-Notts FAS . . .

Cliff Dare: Hmmmm why was that?

James Houlder: Sore losers, Cliffy. Some people just aren't cut out for competitive amateur cricket.

Cliff Dare: Aye. I find just understanding that it’s only a game makes all the difference
